Beyond The Book Media had the pleasure of interviewing author Dana Waters as our Featured Author for the month. Dana recently published her first book, “Life on the Fifth Floor”, with its very own accompanying journal.
We got the chance to sit with her and ask a few questions about her book, the writing and publishing process, and why she chose Beyond The Book Media to help her along the journey. Beyond The Book Media transforms faith-based business owners into becoming the AUTHORITY in their niche, and Dana is the perfect example of what that looks like. Please find the full interview below.
Please tell us about yourself.
I’m a certified health coach and the author of Life on the Fifth Floor: Thriving in Our Fifties. With over 20 years of healthcare experience, I’m passionate about helping others embrace midlife with purpose, clarity, and confidence. I live in Alpharetta, Georgia, and am dedicated to encouraging people to thrive in every season of life.
Tell us about your book and who your book is for?
Life on the Fifth Floor: Thriving in Our Fifties is an empowering guide for anyone navigating the pivotal decade of their fifties. Blending personal insight with practical wisdom, this book helps readers embrace change, reclaim their power, and rise with confidence. It’s for those ready to move beyond survival mode and step into a thriving, purpose-driven life.
What are the top three takeaways you would like your readers to walk away with?
Readers will walk away with the understanding that midlife is a time for renewal, not retreat; that thriving requires intentional choices and the courage to release what no longer serves them; and that their life story holds power—not just to transform their own journey, but to inspire and uplift others along the way.
What inspired you to write your book?
I was inspired to write Life on the Fifth Floor after reaching my fifties and realizing how transformative this chapter of life could be. I saw too many people merely surviving, weighed down by past expectations or fear of change. I wanted to offer hope, perspective, and practical guidance to help others rise, reclaim their voice, and step boldly into a season of thriving—mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
Tell us a little bit about your writing process.
Do you use a unique method? What did the beginning stages entail for you? My writing process began with intention and structure. I joined a 21-day writing bootcamp that taught me the basics of outlining, creating space to write, and developing a regular writing habit. That experience helped me build the foundation I needed to bring this book to life. I didn’t follow a rigid formula, but I did stay disciplined—carving out time each day to reflect, write, and revise. I also allowed space for inspiration and emotion to guide me, especially when writing personal reflections. For me, writing wasn’t just about putting words on a page—it was about creating something honest, meaningful, and empowering.
In terms of publishing, what was that process like for you?
And why did you choose BTBM? The publishing process was a great learning experience. I was introduced to BTBM’s expanded services during the writing bootcamp, and it just made sense to continue with them. As a first-time author, I appreciated their support and guidance through each step, which helped bring my vision to life.
What advice would you give to authors or even entrepreneurs wanting to start or those in the process of writing a book?
My advice is to follow your heart and trust your voice. As with anything meaningful, starting is the first challenge and finishing is the second—but both are possible with dedication and discipline. Make space for your writing, stay consistent, and remember why you started. Your story matters, and someone out there needs to hear it.
Where can people find your book and support you?
