Beyond The Book Media had the pleasure of interviewing author Neil Justin as our Featured Author for the month. Neil recently published his first book, “Live to Soar” with us.
We got the chance to sit with him and ask a few questions about his book, the writing and publishing process, and why he chose Beyond The Book Media to help him along the journey. Beyond The Book Media transforms faith-based business owners into becoming the AUTHORITY in their niche, and Neil is the perfect example of what that looks like. Please find the full interview below.
Please tell us about yourself.
I wear several hats. I’m an airline pilot, a pastor, a musician, a humanitarian, and an entrepreneur. Most importantly, I’m a servant of the Lord Jesus Christ and a husband.
Tell us about your book and who your book is for.
My book tells the story of my journey to becoming an airline pilot and the lessons I can draw from that journey to help others both discover their life’s purpose and take concrete steps to fulfill it. My target audience, therefore, is young people of high school and junior high school ages.
What are the top three takeaways you would like your readers to walk away with?
My top three takeaways are as follows:
- Your God-given dreams are not an accident, and you can fulfill them.
- Every step along your journey, even the disappointing ones, is perfectly tailor-made to help maximize the impact of who you are.
- A critical component of your life’s journey is giving back. Passing on what you’ve learned to others who can use your wisdom is critical to solidifying your legacy.
What inspired you to write your book?
Over the years, I’ve been blessed to share my story to inspire students at schools in the NYC metro area and in the Caribbean. My desire to reach more students, on a global scale, led me to launch a nonprofit organization, and this book is part of my vision to reach more students around the world.
Tell us a little bit about your writing process. Do you use a unique method? What did the beginning stages entail for you?
This writing process was different from my first book. My first book was an exegesis of Mark 16:17-18. This book is more personal as it emanates from the story of my life. Thus, all I had to do was draw from my decades of experience while prayerfully considering what God wanted me to say. Uniquely, I simply had to video record my points and have them transcribed.
In terms of publishing, what was that process like for you? And why did you choose BTBM?
This process was different from my first book in that the goal is far more than just publishing. I chose BTBM for two reasons. First, the team is committed to not only producing the book but also providing the mindset and concrete steps to ensure the book’s success. Secondly, BTBM has several people who are spiritually gifted by God which further generated excitement to have as part of my team to producing this work.
What advice would you give to authors or even entrepreneurs wanting to start or those in the process of writing a book?
My advice is to know your message inside and out. What you want to disseminate matters because it is an extension of your life. Then, selecting the right team to work with to reach your audience with your message matters. This is especially important for those who haven’t published before.
Where can people find your book and support you?
You can find my book on Amazon or by clicking on the photo link on my website, www.neilmjustin.com.
What is next for you and your brand? What can we look forward to in the coming months or years?
Expect to see me working with schools in the Caribbean, the United States, Africa, and Asia to inspire the students to both discover and achieve their life’s purposes. I also aim to expand my nonprofit to start providing scholarships to students who want to get into several areas in the field of aviation. This is part of the ministry God has given me.
